Architecture Interiors Construction

The concept for the Highcliff Residence is rooted in both the immediate and extended context of the site, responding to the lot’s irregular shape while taking full advantage of expansive views of the Los Angeles basin. Inspired by the form of a Japanese Shibori fan, the house unfolds outward, carefully framing and maximizing its vistas.

To harmonize with the neighborhood, the single-story home features a sloping roof that extends upward and outward, capturing panoramic city views. Its modest street-facing presence contrasts with the dynamic openness of the rear elevation, where private side-yard decks and an open-air fire pit overlook the landscape. Every aspect of the design and site strategy leverages the lot to its fullest potential.

The residence is organized into two primary wings: a private wing containing the master bedroom and two guest rooms, and a public wing encompassing the kitchen, living room, and music room. These wings extend from the central dining area, framing the views and enclosing a private courtyard. This courtyard embodies the essence of the Highcliff Residence—a meeting of refined architecture and nature, where indoor and outdoor living converge seamlessly.
