Architecture Interiors Construction

Driving toward the corner lot in a quiet neighborhood in Culver City, the house immediately distinguishes itself through its sculptural shape and refined material palette. A shell-like volume, clad in standing seam metal, projects confidently beyond the grounded plastered mass of the first floor. This interplay of metal and plaster gives the home a layered, tactile identity—lightweight and expressive above, solid and anchored below. Along the shorter elevations, the asymmetrical roofline becomes a dynamic architectural gesture, shifting with perspective and giving the structure a sense of movement. The simple elongated form stretches lengthwise across the lot, punctuated by large-format windows and recessed portals that both frame views and subtly organize the spaces within.

The main entry is thoughtfully positioned along the longer elevation, preserving the front yard as a protected, private outdoor room. This strategic placement reinforces the home’s inward focus and enhances its sense of retreat from the street. Inside, the plan is as composed and deliberate as the exterior expression. Upon entry, a light-filled atrium rises to the second floor, visually linking levels and drawing daylight deep into the home. The ceiling planes trace the asymmetrical rooflines above, creating a shifting volumetric experience that mirrors the exterior form.

The entry and courtyard are recessed into the mass of the building and aligned to establish a strong central axis, reinforcing clarity and orientation. Public spaces on the first floor are organized around this courtyard, allowing natural light and fresh air to permeate the interior while maintaining privacy. Circulation is direct and efficient, minimizing long hallways and maximizing usable space, so rooms feel generous and open.

Throughout the home, a palette of natural tones fosters warmth and cohesion. Walls are seamlessly integrated with cabinetry and built-ins, lending both function and visual continuity. Spaces connect visually across multiple rooms, encouraging a sense of openness while maintaining distinct zones. The result is a residence that balances sculptural presence with calm organization—dynamic in form yet serene in experience.
